Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, has recently cleared certain misunderstandings circulating on social media about the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
Schwartz’s intervention was in response to an X user who was concerned that XRPL is referred to as ‘permissioned’ or ‘trusted’ in some documents. He waved off these labels, saying that they do not capture the real essence of the decentralized network.
Ripple CTO Asserts XRPL Is Fully Decentralized
In his presentation, Schwartz pointed out that XRPL is a permissionless system. This means no single entity controls it, which is the opposite of the “permissioned” or “trusted” labels that are often applied.
He explained that the consensus mechanism of XRPL is decentralized. The validators are in charge of the network, and no single entity has a monopoly of power. This means that no central operator is required for all the transactions that are to be performed.
Schwartz also emphasized that XRPL is more effective in addressing the double-spend problem. It has been a big challenge in the digital currency world.
He was not very concerned with how blockchains solve this issue. He simply noted that XRPL does not have this issue. This division further cements that XRPL is a decentralized and open network.
David Schwartz to Speak on Institutional DeFi at Event
David Schwartz will expand on these themes at the next Permissionless event, where he will present.
On the event’s second day, he would have a segment on institutional decentralized finance (DeFi). This is the first time Schwartz has participated in the conference, which shows his increasing engagement in blockchain and DeFi.
Ripple is very interested in the progress of blockchain, says Schwartz. He will help dispel some myths around XRPL and its consensus mechanism. The conference will be a more profound debate on the subject of institutional DeFi and the place of XRPL in it.
