EVM dApps to benefit from ZK privacy solution

Salus, a holistic Web3 security company unveiled its set of zero-knowledge (ZK) solutions tailored for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) on Jan. 31. The integration of those products into decentralized applications (dApps) can enhance users’ privacy, according to the announcement.

The ZK features are available for any dApp developed on top of blockchains compatible with Solidity, Ethereum’s programming language. This eliminates the need for dApp migration while incorporating ZK functionalities, providing a seamless transition for developers seeking enhanced privacy and security in their applications.

“As more people recognize “DApp+ZK” as the future of Web3, Salus aims to enhance innovation efficiency in the Web3 industry around ZK functionality, reduce innovation costs, and drive the development of the industry through its technological expertise,” says Mirror Tang, Salus co-founder and Chief Scientist.

Tang adds that the ZK proofs privacy attributes are “numerous and desperately needed for Web3” to fully take advantage of the many use cases that require critical information to remain private. Therefore, ZK proofs are poised to address the privacy challenges in the blockchain domain, particularly for applications requiring confidentiality, such as financial services, auctions, and customer verification processes.

Salus team, through additional comments for Crypto Briefing, highlighted that the implementation of the zero-knowledge technology offered by the company isn’t like the one used by zk rollups. Nonetheless, they guarantee that anyone with sufficient knowledge of zk will be able to utilize their framework to enhance dApps’ privacy.

“It’s important to clarify that platforms like Starknet and Scroll, which operate as Layer 2 (L2) chains, do not inherently protect user privacy through zero-knowledge proofs. Their main function is to process user transactions more efficiently and at a lower cost by bundling these transactions and submitting them for verification to Layer 1 (Ethereum), thereby aiming to reduce gas fees,” explains the Web3 security firm.

As for use cases, Salus emphasizes that zero-knowledge features can be applied in different realms of Web3. In DeFi, ZK on-chain dark pools can help combat front-running transactions, counteract liquidity manipulation, and more; in gaming, ZK technology enables game developers to easily create on-chain strategic games tailored for interactive privacy scenarios, bringing new possibilities to gaming scenarios.
