“Buying Digital Land Is The Dumbest Sh*t Ever”
Billionaire Mark Cuban, the notorious crypto investor and self-proclaimed Ethereum maximalist, is not a fan of digital land. In a recent Youtube interview with Altcoin Daily, he spoke about metaverse digital land and the issues he has with it.
Mark Cuban is not a fan of digital land
Mark Cuban is one of the wealthiest men in the world and perhaps one of web3’s most famous advocates. However, in an interview with Altcoin Daily last week, Mark Cuban talked about his dislike of metaverse land spaces and the metaverse hype. In the video, he said, “The worst part is that people buy real estate in these places. That’s just the dumbest sh*t ever.”
Mark Cuban is also concerned about the scarcity of metaverse land and whether this makes the plots more valuable. “It’s not even as good as a URL or an ENS [Ethereum naming service] because there are unlimited volumes you can create,” he added.
Yuga Labs’ real estate sale was ‘dumb’
Surprisingly, Mark Cuban is also an investor in Yuga Labs. They are the owners of Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks, the two most significant NFT collections in the space.
In April, Yuga Labs raised somewhere in the region of $317 million, for an expansive metaverse platform, through land sales. Mark Cuban said he was not a fan of this digital land sale. He stated, “I still thought it was dumb to do the real estate. That was great money for them, but it wasn’t based on a utility.”
In the future, as the metaverse grows and evolves, it will be interesting to see if Mark Cuban changes his mind on the metaverse.
